Archie Ellis Jr. aka "Paw Paw"

Archie Ellis Jr. was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on November 19, 1931, to the union of Archie Ellis, Sr and Lenora Pouncy Ellis, He was educated in the public schools of Little Rock and graduated from Arkansas Baptist College. Almost from birth, his mother immersed him in St. Mark's Baptist Church where he was a lifelong active member, serving as a Deacon leading to being ordained as an Elder and serving on numerous committees until his passing. Archie was a hard working man. As a youngster he delivered ice and was a caddy for a local country club. As an adult, he was a part-time sheriff and worked for and retired from the Little Rock School District and John Deere Company. He also served in the Army as a military policeman (MP). Upon returning home he returned to work at John Deere where he worked for approximately 39 years. He rose through the ranks to become a Regional Foreman, which was no small feat for an African American male in those days. He was admired for his exemplary management style. His region was often recognized for high production outputs. Archie was a family man, who back in the day, would throw the kids in their station wagon and hit the road. He also loved to hunt and fish and shared those activities with his boys. Playing dominoes, cards and listening to music were other favorite activities. Elder Archie Ellis Jr. made his transition on July 19, 2021 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his father and mother:  Archie Ellis, Sr. and Lenora Pouncy Ellis, his wife Helen Louis Ellis, his sister Ida Delores Veasey (Honey), sons Reginald Ellis and Archie Ellis IV, stepson Russell Jackson and stepdaughter Tia Walton and special friend Emma Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memory: Sister Betty Mae Ellis, Daughters Wanda Hopes, Sheree Ellis, Kimberly Ellis and Sharron Shields(Johnny), daughter-in-law Phyllis Ellis; Sons Christopher and Archie Ellis III (Stephanie), 12 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, 7 Great, Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.  Funeral service will be Tuesday July 27, 2021 11:00 a.m. and visitation will be Monday July 26, 2021 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Both services will be held at the funeral home.
