Carl Windell Akins

Carl Windell Akins, Sr. was born on May 24, 1954, in College Station, Arkansas, to the late Ira "Bug" Akins, Sr. and Alice Lavezzarry Akins. He was one of sixteen children.

Carl accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Nebo African Methodist Episcopal Church and later rededicated his life to Christ through baptism.

He attended Sweet Home High School and was known as a hardworking entrepreneur and one of the hardest-working men many had ever known. Throughout his life, he worked in automotive sales, construction, demolition, trucking, and hauling, which included employment with 3M and American Builder Supply. His greatest passion was automobiles, and he was widely known for his race car, "The Bounty Hunter." He was also affectionately known as the great "Snow Cone Man," bringing smiles to children and families throughout College Station and surrounding communities for many years.

In 1972, Carl met the love of his life, Beryl Albright Akins. Together they shared 53 years of love and devotion, raised six children, and built a legacy rooted in faith, family, and community.

Carl dedicated his life to serving people, often known as “The Boss.” Whether helping a neighbor, supporting his community, or spending time with family, he was always willing to lend a helping hand. His wisdom, generosity, laughter, smile, and larger-than-life personality touched countless lives.

He was a true LEGEND!

Carl transitioned to eternal rest on June 20, 2026, surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Akins Sr. and Alice Akins; brothers Jackie Porter, Frank Porter, and Ira Akins Jr.; sisters Dorothy Coleman, Julia Kelley, Myra Murray, Sara LaShawn Akins, and Marilyn Sue Akins; granddaughter Modesti; mother-in-law Mary Albright; father-in-law Fred Albright, Jr.

To cherish his memory, Carl leaves his loving wife, Beryl Akins, who enjoyed 53 years of love and memories; his legacy includes his children: sons Carl (Nura) Akins Jr., John (Crystal) Akins, Jason (Candice) Akins, Malachi (Lashawndra) Akins, Sr., and Carlton Akins; daughter Christina (Freddie) Akins-Brewster; 25 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters Carolyn Croom, Gloria (Knoxie Jr.) Hall, Evelyn Akins, Alicia Hodge, Terri (Kawiim) Kawee, and Latonia Akins-Owens; brother Ronald (Vassie) Akins Sr.; uncle William Akins; special Godson Tracy James; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Carl's legacy will forever live on through his family. He was a trailblazer in the community of College Station and throughout Arkansas, where he touched many lives through his kindness, contagious smile, and love for his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew him as the life of the party. Now he is dancing in Heaven, he gave his life to Christ!
