Carl Washington Obituary

Carl Anthony Washington, the first son and grandson, was born March 17, 1967, to Charlie
Washington and Gwendolyn Hampton.

He is preceded in passing by his beloved grandmother Viola “Honey” Smith, grandfather
Enoch Smith, father Charlie Washington, and mother Gwendolyn (Hampton) Acker, along
with his great-grandparents.

Carl was raised in a Christian household headed by Mr. King David Acker and Gwendolyn
(Hampton) Acker, with help from his grandmother. His strong will helped him to triumph
over any adversity he faced. He never strayed from the strong beliefs instilled in him. His
memory was a clear and bright one on earth to hold his loved ones near.

Carl leaves to cherish his memory:
His son Jolear Washington; siblings Timothy Johnson, Amber Washington, Desmond Bynum,
Dominique Washington, Shan Patrice Washington, and Montez Washington; siblings King
David Acker III, Shannon Acker, and Jonathan Acker; his fiancée LeTreceia Bynum; and a
host of nieces, nephews, and bonus family.

Carl had a personality larger than life. He was always the life of the family gatherings.
Outspoken, funny, and always ready for deep philosophical conversations. As a child, he was
adventurous and showed no fear when trying new (although possibly dangerous) things.
Somehow, he never broke a bone.

Carl was the fastest runner in the neighborhood, according to him, so he was always the one
ready to go on “friendly runs” when everyone else was supposed to be in the house. There
was never a dull moment in his presence.

Born into a talented family, Carl showed his own musical gifts at a very young age. A self-
taught gospel pianist, saxophonist, bass guitarist. If it made music, Carl could play it.

As a young adult, Carl played for the Youth Choir at Greater New Hope Baptist Church for a
number of years. He sang in the SW Community Choir and competed in many competitions
with “The Boys.” He was a pretty good dancer too.

Carl was talented in many ways. He loved projects and fixing things; if he didn’t know how
to do something, he made sure to figure it out.

He played the saxophone (where he made 1st chair) at Parkview High School.

Carl was very gifted in many ways. His jokes, pranks, “fireballs,” deep conversations, and
unforgettable memories will be talked about, laughed about, and remembered for many years to come.
