Dorothy Ballard Obituary

Ms. Dorothy J. Ballard was born June 20, 1959 in Lewisville, Arkansas to the late Charles W. Bass, Sr. and
Vernice Bass.
At an early age, Minister Ballard dedicated her life to Christ. She became a member of Antioch Baptist
Church in childhood, College Station, AR. In 1983, she became a member of Old Landmark House of
Prayer under the leadership of the late Bishop H. L. Ballard where she was ordained and licensed as a
minister. She met and married Pastor Walter H. Ballard where they later co-labored at Old Landmark
House of Prayer. Minister Ballard was founder and president of the Women Working in Power
Fellowship Ministry, Inc., Little Rock, AR.
In 2008, Minister Ballard became a member of Trinity Worship Center, Conway, AR under the leadership
of Pastor Derwin J. Baker, Sr., where she served as his administrative assistant, a member of the
teaching staff and the finance committee.
In later years, Minister Dorothy J. Ballard became a member of Agape Church, Little Rock, AR. She was
apart of various organizations within the church. She was the Right to Life Coordinator. She was a
founding member of Deeper Still Arkansas chapter. She served with the team in many capacities, but
specifically on the intercessor team. She spoke life and encouragement into everyone she served and
served with. Dorothy imparted a legacy of strong intercessor ship, leadership, love, peace, joy, and
faithfulness upon the Deeper Still team. She was also a proactive volunteer for Pro-Life. She served as
part of the teaching staff as well.
Minister Ballard was educated in the Little Rock School District. She was a graduate of the Historical
Little Rock Central High School, class of 1978. In further pursuit of higher education, she received a
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology/Social Work and a minor in Psychology from Philander Smith
University. In addition, she received a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of
Arkansas at Little Rock and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society.
She received a Diploma in Biblical Studies from Agape College formally Agape School of World
Evangelism, Little Rock, Arkansas where she served as the President of the Student Government
Association. She was attending the American Institute, enhancing her biblical scholarship and Hebraic
understanding in the Judeo-Christian experience.
Minister Ballard was a retiree from the Arkansas Department of Health where she worked in various
administrative roles including local health unit administrator. She was also a Service-Connected Veteran
of the United States Army National Guard. Her other accomplishments include serving as a founding
Mother of the Arkansas Birthing Project/Big Sisters program and as a founding board member of the
Arkansas Birthing Project.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles W. Bass, Sr. and Vernice Bass; her only child, Cherie P.
Jones; brothers, Joseph L. Bass, Willie L. Bass, Charles R. Bass, and Jimmy R. Bass; sister, Geneva Butler.
Minister Ballard is survived by one grandson, Kelan L. Jones; two granddaughters, Akia Z. Jones and Kelia
T. Jones; one great-granddaughter, Ryleigh E. Donald; two sisters, Joan N. Bass and Alice M. Bass; and
one brother Arthur L. Bass; a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. She will be
greatly missed by all those who knew her.
