Dorothy Mae Hegwood Hines, 91, of Little Rock, AR passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 31, 2020. She was born July 14, 1930, to the late Lettie Bell Dunlap and Milton Will Hegwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings: Vester Scoggins and Milton Hegwood, Sr.
Born in Little Rock, Dorothy attended the following Little Rock Public Schools: Capitol Hill Elementary, Charlotte Stephens Elementary, and Paul Lawrence Dunbar Junior & Senior High Schools. It was at Dunbar Junior High that she first met her husband Carl Edward Hines. These two were united in Holy Matrimony on September 7, 1951, Reverend Z. Z. Dryver officiating. Witnessing this marriage and to this day, this life together, her best friend Mrs. Pearl Johnson of Arkansas City.
Dorothy was a staple of her community and was loved and respected by her neighbors. Within the community she was a member of the Women of Granite Mountain Red Cross Volunteers and LR School District PTA. A lifelong member of Union African Methodist Episcopal Church (LR) she served on the Gertie Brandon Women’s Missionary Society and was a member of Usher Board #2.
To honor her life and cherish her memory, she leaves to mourn her passing her husband Carl Hines, 3 daughters: Carla Coleman (John), Juanese Richie (Joe), Yvette Hines; 2 sons: Dwayne Hines, Sr., and Anthony Hines, Sr. (Yolonda); a loving sister of 93 years, Willie Mae Hegwood Harrison. Her best friend for more than 75 years, Mrs. Pearl Johnson; nieces: Evelyn Tenpenny (Samuel), Linda Thompson (Billy), Reva Littrill, Doris Harrison, Calvetta Pointer, Sharon Toombs (Phillip) and Arthurene "Peggy" Mitchell; nephews: Larry Harrison (Debra) & Milton Hegwood III; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and a host of other family and friends.
The funeral service will be Monday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Faithful Funeral Home, 7727 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72204, with Reverend Chestine Sims presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Edward Shelton, President/CEO. “Service Is What We Do”. Burial, Tuesday, April 12, 2022, 12:00 Noon at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, Sherwood, Arkansas.
