Felix Payne Jr., born on February 21, 1946, in Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on
June 30, 2025, at CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 79.
He was the beloved son of Felix Payne Sr. and Dora Payne and was raised alongside a large and
loving family. He is survived by his siblings Gloria Jean Brown, Anthony Payne, and sisters-in-
law Marion Jean Payne and Joy Mathis. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings
Granville Smith (Hazel), Ruth Mae Payne, Vernon Payne (Sharon), Johnny Payne, and Eloise
Payne.
Felix is lovingly remembered by his wife of over 55 years, Eloise Payne, his two daughters,
Jelisa Smith (Lawrence) and Jennelle Primm (Pierre), and his cherished granddaughter, Pilar
Ilori Primm, who brought him immense joy and pride. In addition, he leaves a lasting legacy in
the hearts of his many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly and will forever
cherish the laughter, wisdom, and unwavering support he brought into their lives.
A graduate of Southwestern High School in Flint, Michigan, Felix briefly served in the United
States Army before embarking on a remarkable 42-year career with General Motors. He began
with a machine repair apprenticeship in Flint and later relocated to the Spring Hill, Tennessee
plant, where he served in various roles with dedication and distinction. While working full-time,
Felix also earned a bachelor’s degree from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville,
Tennessee.
Above all else, Felix was a faithful and devoted servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. For over 35
years, he served tirelessly at Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia, TN, where he
held roles including Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and eventually became an Associate
Minister. His faith and belief in Christ was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions, words,
and service to others.
Felix found his greatest joy in supporting his daughters in their athletic and personal endeavors.
He had a deep love for reading and studying God’s Word, enjoyed traveling, watching old
Western movies, and engaging in lively political discussions. His steady presence, warm heart,
and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
As he completed his earthly journey, Felix embodied the words of 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought
the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
A celebration of his life and legacy will be held at Faithful Funeral Home, 7727 Colonel Glenn
Rd, Little Rock, Arkansas on July 5, 2025 at 11:00am. Service details will be shared with family
and friends.
Felix Payne Jr.'s life was one of purpose, love, and service. He will be deeply missed and fondly
remembered by all whose lives he touched.
