Janice Onwumere Obituary

Mrs. Janice Marie Onwumere 52, was born February 13, 1969 to Ms. Alma Brown in Earle, Arkansas. She confessed Christ at an early age at the Friendship Baptist Church in Shell Lake, Arkansas. In 1980, she moved with her grandmother to Detroit, MI. She became a member of the Universal Spiritual Temple of Peace where she taught herself to play drums. One of her favorite songs to play was Heaven Belongs to You. In 1985 she moved to Little Rock, AR and was a1987 graduate of Hall High School. After graduating, her love for children led her to become the recreational programmer for the Ottenheimer Community Center for several years before being transferred to the Southwest Community Center. Janice had an intense love playing the drums. If she was sick, she would still play. If her broken foot was in pain, she would still play. If there was not a full set of drums available, she would take her drumsticks and snare and anything else she could pull together and play as if she had a full set. She was able to play the drums one last time on May 22nd during the funeral service for her uncle. She was the drummer for her mother's group, Alma Brown and the A-1 Gospel Singers, until her foot injury. She also played for the Corinthian Singers and the Evangelist Baptist Church. If you ever read her facebook page, she expressed her daily desire for her third love, which was a Dr. Pepper. She became a member of the Pilgrim Progress Baptist Church and was a faithful and dedicated member and musician until her passing. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Wilson Chema Onwumere; her mother Ms. Alma Brown; two sons: DeAndre (Treneice) Lewis and Lafarrell Franklin; 7 grandchildren, Tristian Norris, DeAndre Lewis Jr; Kirstian Lewis, Ky'Liana Kanu, Kaelen Kanu, Lafarrell Franklin Jr., and Kyler Franklin; one sister, Fanta(Danny) Lewis; 2 brothers, Derrick and Darryl Brown; niece and nephew Lundyn Levar Faulkner Jr.; God-sister Pamela Franklin and God-son Ricky Stewart as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
