John Eddie Smith, 75, went to be with his Heavenly Father on September 16, 2025. He was born on January 29, 1950, in Jonestown, Mississippi, to the late Freddie B. Singleton and William Smith. John was an Army Veteran who faithfully served his country in the 1970s. He later worked at the Veterans Hospital as a Patient Care Tech, where he was known for his dedication and compassion. John enjoyed fishing, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and drinking coffee. He loved relaxing on the front porch, watching the cars go by, and chatting with neighbors who enjoyed his sense of humor. He also found joy in watching old TV shows or laughing along with his nieces and nephews as they enjoyed their favorite programs together. John leaves to cherish his memory his niece, Konika Singleton Butler (Lajuan); daughter, Tamara Hylton (Maurice); two grandchildren, Brandon Patrick and Ashley Patrick; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his Sisters, Savanah Coleman of Memphis, Tennessee, and Catherine Morgan of East Hartford, CT; Brother Arthonia Strong (Earlene) of East St. Louis, Illinois; aunt Arvelia Mack of Memphis, Tennessee; Sister In Law, Mildred Singleton, Great nieces T’ajah Howard, Jocelyn Howard, Shamari Howard; and a great nephew Kayden Butler, along with a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his longtime partner Catherine Thompson, his brothers Larry W. Smith and Kenneth C. Singleton, sister Euria Jones, and grandson Christopher Patrick.
