Lawrence Gilmore Obituary

With love in our hearts and sadness in our souls, we say goodbye to Lawrence Edwin Gilmore who passed away on May 14, 2025 at John L. McClellan Memorial Veteran Hospital in Little Rock. He was 68 years old.

Lawrence was born on September 23, 1956 and from the start he had a gentle spirit, a big heart, and a quiet strength that mad a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He was baptized at Lee Chapel  AME Church, where he began a lifelong walk with faith. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1975, and not long after, joined the U.S. Army. He proudly served as a Supply Specialist and Combat Engineer, earning an honorable discharge. Lawrence was proud of his time in the military and carried that same sense of duty and commitment through out his life.

Family meant everything to Lawrence. He is survived by his loving mother, Betty Jean Gilmore Henry and his stepmother Rose Williams. He was a devoted father to Destiny Boyd and a proud grandfather to Christopher and Morgan Pitts, who always brought a smile to his face. An awesome big brother to Billy Ray, Toney Macio, Tyrone Clark, Tony Williams, one special sister Mrs. Freddie Marie and a special friend Dr. Lula Marshall. He shared a special bond with each of them, filled with memories, jokes, and support.

If you knew Lawrence, you knew he loved sports - all sports. But his heart belonged to the Seattle Seahawks. He was the kind of fan who stuck with his team through wins and losses and was always ready to talk football. As a kid, Lawrence got into Golden Gloves Boxing at the North Little Rock Boys Club, where he trained under Coach Hamp. Boxing taught him discipline and resilience - qualities that showed up in every part of his life. Lawrence didn't need to be the loudest in the room. HIs calm, steady presence said it all. He was kind, dependable, and always there when you needed him. He lived a life of quiet strength, strong values, and steady love. He'll be missed more than words can say, but we're grateful for the time we had with him. His love, his laugh, and his legacy will live on in all of us. Rest easy, Lawrence. We'll carry your memory with us always.
