Maurice “Mo” Brooks was born on June 3, 1958 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Willie
and Ben-Edna Brooks. He departed this life on December 9, 2024.
Maurice accepted Christ at an early age and later became a devoted minister of
the gospel. He served for several years as pastor of White Memorial Baptist
Church which later became Abundant Grace Baptist Church. Following his tenure
there, he joined St. Mark Baptist Church.
Prior to his declining health, Maurice was as associate minister at St. Mark. He
was a graduate of the church’s Roddy E. Collins School of Ministry where he
continued to take additional courses and recruit other church members to do
likewise. He faithfully served in the prison ministry, nursing home ministry, and on
the congregational care team.
Maurice graduated from Central High School in 1976. He was a proud participant
in the Tiger athletic program where he was a member of the track team. After
serving briefly in the military, he was employed by the Veterans Administration
Hospital as an information technology specialist. His career there would span 42
years.
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents and a brother – Charles. Those
mourning his passing but cherishing fond memories include his wife, Jerri “Judy”
Alford Brooks; sons, Wesley (Annette) and Maurice, Jr.; a daughter, Tekeisha; and
several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He also leaves to mourn his passing – five brothers: Rev. William Brooks
(Curtistein), Bobby (Mae), Veotis, Rodney (Nancy), and Antonio (Rochelle).
