Nathaniel “Babe” Norwood, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home on April 12, 2026. He was born on September 27, 1934, in Scott, Arkansas, to the late Caldonia Jackson-Martin and Isiah Norwood.
At an early age, Nathaniel accepted Christ and developed a strong foundation of faith. He served faithfully on his church’s usher board for 41 years. Throughout his life, he remained steadfast in his beliefs, holding firmly to his faith through every struggle and obstacle he encountered.
Nathaniel was a proud and skilled mason who took great pride in his work. He often spoke of leaving his mark on the construction throughout the city of Little Rock through his company, Norwood’s Masonry—an enduring testament to his craftsmanship and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Percy and Mary Jackson; brothers, Jessie Sanders and Gerald Norwood; his sisters, Sandra Love and Freddie Marie Smith; his grandson, David Myers; and the love of his life, his devoted wife of 55 years, Annie Mae Webb Norwood.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving children: Sharon (Micheal) Vappie of Atlanta, Georgia; Beverly Norwood (Dr. Robert) Matheney of New Orleans, Louisiana; Candace Norwood-Jones of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Andre Lamonette (Elrica) Norwood of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by his sisters: Belver Nelson of Little Rock, Arkansas; Rose Bickerstaff of Menlo Park, California; Brenda Henson of Little Rock, Arkansas; Regina Norwood of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Natalie Willis of Little Rock, Arkansas; his brother, Wade Norwood of Little Rock, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild, along with a host of other relatives and dear friends.
