Sherly Lynette Holmes

Sherly Lynette Holmes passed peacefully, surrounded by her daughter, brother, and sister in
love on July 24, 2025, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Sherly was born on
December 3, 1959, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was the oldest and only daughter out of 5
children to Arthur and Lenorris Cross.
In her early years, she was known as an Army brat. Her father served in the United States Army,
and they traveled frequently. Sherly spent her high school years in Germany and graduated
from Ansbach High School in 1977.
Sherly has always been the smile and the life wherever she went. From her early elementary
years to the last time we talked to her, she had a smile on her face and a laugh in her voice.
In 1982, at 22 years old, Sherly married the love of her life, Mr. James H. Holmes. In this union,
they welcomed their daughter, Jamese Raven Holmes. Jamese has always been the joy in
Sherly’s life. Her husband, James, passed in 1999, and Sherly and Jamese were the best of
friends. Jamese became her mother's BBF, dinner date, and caregiver. Their friendship and love
for one another were unmatched.
Those who truly knew and loved her knew she had some favorite things. Wrestling was her
favorite sport. Booker T. and the Undertaker had her jumping at the television. If she was doing
that, she was tending to her beautiful plants, from house plants to tomato plants. She loved
them all, and they were everywhere. The jokes she told and her story were filled with laughter
and very animated. She loved dancing and all genres of music. When her favorite song came on,
she would snap her fingers and sing. Even though her dinner date was allergic to shellfish, crab
legs were Sherly’s favorite meal. Her dinner date never let her down and would take her out for
a night on the town. If you wanted to get her a gift, it was easy; she loved cheetah print
anything and purple of any shade. The one thing she loved the was God; her favorite and most
notable phrase was “Obey God.” Pastor Blood lovingly named her Ms. Obey God. She loved
singing in the choir and fellowshipping in church, as well as having after-church dinners with her
family. Sherly is survived by her BFF and her daughter, Jamese Holmes, her oldest brother, Arthur
Cross Jr., and her baby brother, Sedrick Cross (Robin). Nieces and Nephews Stephanie, Steven
Matthew (Pine Bluff, AR), Sentha (Forest City, AR), Sheila (W. Monroe, LA), Sedrick Jalen (San
Antonio, TX), Jade Collins (Antyonne), Shana, Anaya, Shaniya, Mariah, all of Little Rock. She also
has 14 grandnieces and nephews. Her beloved grand Dog James Puta Holmes
She was preceded in death by her husband James Holmes, her parents Arthur Sr and Lenorris
Cross, her brother Steven, Harry, Sellwyn, and sisters Clair and baby Shana.
